Homeowner Hell

The road to the kitchen of our dreams. This is the diary of a major renovation, out of control before it began, of the home of two adults with full-time jobs, two young children, two elderly and decrepit dogs, and a cranky cat.

The Plan

Okay, we now have a Plan. And a quote. But no measurements, and the designer's gone on holidays.

Here is a picture of The Plan.

I have given up on having it for Christmas, so it will begin in The New Year, or, whenever we give them lots of money. I haven't figured out the logistics of construction and animals and cooking yet, but I have faith all will reveal itself in time.

Update on dog and dining room hardwood: thankfully, most times, the demands of the bladder have won out over the fear of the floor, and he does, reluctantly, traverse the hardwood to go Outside. I do suspect he is not too long for the world, but until then, we will make the sacrifice and keep the rest of the carpet, so that he at least can rise to a standing position without backing himself into a corner when he needs to go out.

More soon, I hope, when the final quote is in.

The carpet

This weekend we ripped up the carpet in the dining room to find reasonably fit hardwood underneath. It is ugly hardwood, but in good shape. It will go at some point, but at present, it is far less disgusting than the carpet was. The biggest problem is now the dog, who slips and slides on the floor and is highly reluctant to traverse his only route to his potty. We're working on it.
